TV farmer promotes benefits of local produce

19 May 11

Jimmy Doherty, farmer and star of TV’s ‘Jimmy’s Farm’ and ‘Jimmy’s Global Harvest’ is championing a new initiative to make consumers more aware of the benefits of local produce. Jimmy aims to bring the UK public closer to the source of their food, through an exclusive look into the daily life of Britain’s farmers.

New research shows that the UK is becoming increasingly concerned with how their food is grown, and 63% now admit that they care about the origins of their food. Consumers are also becoming increasingly concerned with the processes that farmers go through and even the air miles that imported products rack up.

In this exclusive video, Jimmy goes behind the scenes of British farming to find out what it’s really like to provide British produce to the nation, highlighting the hard work those farmers working alongside Hovis to grow the best quality wheat right here in Britain.

For wheat farmers, the process starts in July or August time when they combine the last crop. The field is then cultivated and looked after throughout the winter and spring to make sure the wheat is of the best quality. It’s an essential part of the British landscape.

Jimmy is part of Hovis’ 100% British Wheat campaign, encouraging the nation to ‘Eat British Wheat’ and champion local British farmers based across the UK.
