Natural England has met with the Lynx UK Trust to discuss the possible reintroduction of the wild cat - which was once the UK’s second largest carnivore, behind the grey wolf.

The Trust spokesperson said the meeting with Natural England was the first of many that would have to take place for an application to go through. the subject of 'rewilding' has attracted more serious attetion in recent years; responses to the public survey on lynx reintroduction massively outweighed a similar consultation conducted ahead of controlled releases of beavers.
