Maskell retains shadow environment brief
Rachel Maskell will retain her position in Labour’s front bench reshuffle. The shadow secretary, who announced that a Labour government would end the badger cull and produce a joined-up food policy at the Party Conference in Liverpool in September has remained in place, though Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has shifted the briefs of his shadow defence, health and home secretaries.
Corbyn, who won a second leadership election at the Conference, increasing his his share of the vote, replaced the posts of MPs who resigned ahead of the leadership challenge in the summer, and removed Dame Rosie Winterton from the chief whip’s office, replacing her with Nick Brown, who was chief whip under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
