Have you got what it takes to be one of the North West’s first farming ambassadors?

Lantra Sector Skills Council and the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) are looking for six passionate farmers in the North West to become the region’s first farming ambassadors.

The farming ambassador programme is offering 80% funding to support six farmers in the North West to learn how to talk to the media, develop their presentation skills and understand how to chair meetings. This will help them raise the profile of farming in the region and encourage young people to get involved.

Lantra’s Manager for the North West, Amy Cosgrove, said: “There is a wealth of talent in the farming community in the region and this programme will allow us to develop their skills and confidence so they can effectively shout about the fantastic industry they work in.”

The programme is being rolled out in the North West following the successful development of six farming ambassadors in the East Midlands, led by the NFU with funding from Lantra’s LandSkills programme.

NFU North West Regional Director, Robert Sheasby, said: “We need farmers who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and throw themselves into representing a region with a strong farming tradition. Be the farmer who, in years to come, can proudly look back at a contribution that’s made the North West region a better place to farm.”

If you think you have what it takes then email amy.cosgrove@lantra.co.uk or call 01697 746111 for an application form. Deadline for applications is 12 November 2010.
