Former Chief Whip replaces Victoria Prentis at Defra

Mark Spencer, Conservative MP for Sherwood has been appointed Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, replacing Victoria Prentis.

The MP has a farming background, having studied at Shuttleworth Agricultural College before joining the family farm and was a former member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee.

Mr Spencer said : "I am honoured to be appointed as a Minister of State in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

"As a Farmer and someone who is born and bred in Sherwood I know how important food production and the environment are. I am looking forward to championing the whole rural sector for Sherwood and the UK."

He recently said:" Farmers have such a positive impact on our environment, economy & landscape  Producing the highest quality food & highest level of animal welfare - British Farmers are the best in the world".
