Fischer Farms secures LEAF accreditation for Norwich vertical farm

Fischer Farms, the firm behind one of the world’s largest vertical farms, has announced that its Norwich site has achieved LEAF Marque accreditation, recognising its commitment to sustainable farming practices, transparency, and responsible food production.

Awarded by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), LEAF Marque is a globally recognised environmental assurance system that demonstrates a farm’s adherence to Integrated Farm Management (IFM) principles. The accreditation independently verifies that Fischer Farms balances productivity with environmental stewardship and positive community impact.

Fischer Farms currently grows leafy greens and herbs at its 4-acre vertical farm in Norwich, supplying a range of retailers and foodservice providers across the UK. The site opened in 2023, following the success of the company’s first vertical farm in Burton-upon-Trent, and represents a key part of Fischer Farms’ long-term vision for resilient, low-impact food production.

LEAF Marque accreditation covers a wide range of sustainability and governance areas, including crop protection, energy efficiency, water management, biodiversity, and community engagement. For Fischer Farms, the achievement reflects a whole-system approach to farming that integrates advanced controlled-environment technology with robust environmental and social responsibility standards.

The accreditation marks an important milestone for Fischer Farms, demonstrating its organisational commitment to sustainability, traceability, and responsible sourcing, while providing customers and consumers with confidence in how their food is grown.

Jon Cummings, Commercial Director at Fischer Farms, said: “Securing LEAF Marque accreditation for our Norwich farm is a significant achievement for Fischer Farms. It validates the work our teams do every day to ensure our farms operate responsibly and efficiently, while producing high-quality food that meets growing consumer expectations around sustainability and traceability.

“The accreditation also recognises the contribution of our fantastic technical and operational teams, whose work underpins the farm’s performance across energy use, water stewardship, crop management, and data-driven traceability systems. We are thrilled to have secured recognition for our role in building a more resilient, transparent, and environmentally conscious food system.”
