Wednesday 16 October was World Food Day and for the first time a world wide twitter discussion was organised to discuss food and farming. Participants from across the globe discussed the challenges they face as farmers, what the future holds and what did the want to see happen.

There was consensus on the need for people to value food and the farming communities that produce it, the need to reduce waste in the system and to close the gap between the rural and urban populations. There was also a strong sense that sustainable food production is more than just a buzz phrase it is an essential part of what farmers have to do. Exchanges of thoughts and ideas on a fast moving forum like this show just how connected the global farming community is.
