EU pig prices: price rises consolidating
Price rises, which belatedly spread across Europe in early June have consolidated over the past week, according to German pig industry group ISN. The group said on Tuesday that the EU mature pigs market "is on the upswing."
ISN said, "Supply is limited and is being well demanded on the part of slaughter companies everywhere, thanks to the summer temperatures." Market prices are shooting up by a corrected 5 to 6 cents in France and Spain.
Price rises were also recorded in Denmark, Austria and Great Britain. Spain has retained its leading place among the five major pig-keeping states in Europe. Spain has a corrected slaughter weight of 1.842 euros per kg.
German prices remained level, which ISN said stands "against both the trend and the current market situation and [is] contrary to expectations." The industry body railed against slaughter companies for threatening to fix discount prices. Even so, Germany remains slightly ahead of Denmark in the producers' table. With a corrected 1.626 euros per kg.
In the Netherlands, prices also continued on the level. In areas where quotations have remained static, ISN said, "Disappointment continues to prevail about the price increase which has been missed."
