Farming News - Blackgrass and yield plateau focus of Lincolnshire Technical Symposium

Blackgrass and yield plateau focus of Lincolnshire Technical Symposium

Farmers are looking for innovative solutions to the current issues they are facing and to help them rise to the challenge of improving their yields.

It is now well recognised that soil organic matter has declined over recent decades and that drainage has been neglected on many farms for over a generation. The symposium brings together speakers with expertise in soil organic matter, drainage and the use of cover crops within new cropping systems to address this.

“It is a really exciting time in arable agriculture at present with a lot of farmer led innovation taking place to tackle some of the challenges that we face. The day will cover improving soil fertility, including the use of catch and cover crops and direct drilling techniques to enhance performance,” says David Gardner, CEO of Innovation for Agriculture.

Speakers include four Nuffield scholars, drainage expert Rob Burtonshaw, arable farmer Jake Freestone talking about his experience on farm of alternative cover and catch crops as well as David Gardner who will discuss soil biology.

David Millar, of Wheatsheaf Farming and Arable Farmer of the Year 2015 will discuss the use of a cross slot drill for direct drilling and in particular about maximising the use of cover crops for soil fertility.

There are a small number of opportunities to exhibit at the Symposium, please contact us for more information.

This event is being run in partnership by Innovation for Agriculture and Lincolnshire Agricultural Society.
