Challenging Meurig Raymon and Guy Smith, Mr Quinney will also stand for deputy president having been in office as vice president since 2012.

Nominated by Warwickshire, where he farms, and Worcestershire branches of NFU and by ‘three or four counties’ for the vice president role.

Mr Quinney’s intentions come as Peter Kendall announced he was standing down as NFU president after eight years in the post in October.

Meurgig Raymond, who has served as deputy president under Peter Kendall for the past eight years, announced his candidacy immediately and remains the frontrunner to succeed him in elections decided by the NFU’s council at the end of its conference and AGM on February.

Nomination deadlines for the role for the three officeholder posts closes is tomorrow (January 15). Mr Quinney said:

“Meurig is an extremely strong candidate but I will but I will be going to try and win in a very positive manner.”

The election will take place at this year’s NFU conference at Birmingham NEC next month.
