Leading slurry handling solutions featured by Bauer at new Muck Management event for farmers

Farmers who need to up-spec their slurry handling and storage resources for greater cost-efficiency or to keep pace with anti-pollution regulations will get plenty of guidance and professional-class machine options from Bauer at a new technical event in June.

Muck Management, being staged on June 3/4 near Rhyl in north Wales, will have working demonstrations of slurry and manure application techniques and machinery that provide valuable nutrients to grass and other farm crops.

Technical presentations delivered in association with leading farm advisory consultancy ADAS, and trade exhibits by suppliers, will also provide valuable information, advice and solutions.

Bauer’s focus will be on separating slurry into its liquid and fibrous fractions for easier storage and application and, especially, to make optimum use of the nutrients and organic matter these materials provide, says Rob Jackson, area sales manager, Bauer UK & Ireland.

The Bauer Group’s Bauer and FAN Separator screw separation machines are widely recognised for their ease of control, durability and long-term cost efficiency, and the range of models available that cater for every herd size.

With typical maximum throughputs from 16 to 150cu m per hour, all models work on the same principal – squeezing the incoming slurry against a slotted screen in a screw press so that the liquid fraction can flow out into a storage tank or lagoon while the fibrous solids are discharged into a storage pit or trailer.

The separators are mostly used in a static installation but low-height and elevating mobile versions are also produced.

The special FAN 3.3-780 Green Bedding model achieves the highest compression pressure and liquid extraction, resulting in a soft, fluffy material that makes a comfortable cubicle bed for cows to lie on.

In addition to separators, examples of Bauer’s above-ground and submerged slurry pumps will be shown, along with a slurry agitator/mixer, while a 20cu m Bauer poly tanker will take part in the working machine programme.

Unlike most slurry tankers with their steel containers – and Bauer supplies those too – the poly tanker is unique in having a container hand-formed from hand-layered woven polyester sheets finished on the outside with a Gelcoat layer that protects against the tank’s corrosive contents as well as the weather.

“Together with the corrosion-resistant galvanised chassis, the Gelcoat results in Bauer poly tankers cleaning up really well, looking like new even after a lot of use and resulting in strong re-sale values,” notes Rob Jackson.

The heart-shaped tank is lighter for its capacity than steel alternatives and its shape contributes to a low centre of gravity for good stability, even when running on advanced suspension running gear with wide and large diameter flotation tyres for least impact on the soil.

Muck Management, organised by Dee Media Group, will be held on June 3/4 at the Bodrhyddan Hall estate, Rhuddlan near Rhyl in Denbighshire, north Wales, where the site is easily accessible via the A55.
