Great British Farm Fest Cuts 51,000kg CO2e with Certas Energy HVO

Last weekend, the UK's largest independent fuel distributor, Certas Energy, successfully powered The Great British Farm Fest using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), delivering 19,775 litres of the renewable fuel across the three-day celebration of farming.

The Great British Farm Fest is now celebrating a reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 51,056 kilograms of CO2e compared to standard diesel as a result of the leading energy transition partner's HVO support.

This highlights the significant role lower-carbon fuels can play in reducing the environmental impact of large-scale events.

Certas Energy supplied 14,991 litres of HVO to the site to power generators and provided an additional 4,784 litres to support the delivery of tractors and machinery.

Beyond directly powering the huge farming festival, Certas Energy also delivered the fuel in its own HVO-powered tankers. This helped to lower Scope 3 emissions linked to logistics and distribution.

By combining renewable fuel supply with lower-emission delivery, Certas Energy demonstrated how a more joined-up approach can help customers reduce carbon across their wider supply chain.

A celebration of down-to-earth British farming at its finest, The Great British Farm Fest took place at NAEC Stoneleigh, Warwickshire from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th May, welcoming more than 60,000 attendees across an action-packed weekend.

Championing the agricultural community, the event featured headline appearances from farming royalty including Jeremy Clarkson, Lisa Hogan, Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland and Adam Henson.

Certas Energy brand ambassador Olly Harrison also attended the event, leading the Tractor Parade and Tractorama Stunt Arena, where some of farming's most powerful machines battled it out to showcase their incredible strength and capabilities.

Attendees delighted in a packed programme of live music, wholesome activities and delicious grub across three fun-filled days, with performances from Groove Armada and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, alongside eight show rings and The Piddly Diddly – a pop-up of Clarkson's iconic Diddly Squat Farm Shop.

By powering the event with HVO, Certas Energy provided a live demonstration of how renewable fuels can, contrary to common misconception, be seamlessly integrated into large-scale operations. This helped event organisers and agricultural businesses alike to reduce their emissions with minimal disruption, with dedicated support from the country's leading energy transition partner.

In addition to lowering carbon emissions, HVO can also contribute to improved local air quality compared to standard diesel emissions, helping to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PMs) and carbon monoxide (CO), a positive outcome for attendees and surrounding communities.

As a drop-in alternative to red and white diesel, HVO can typically be used in existing engines without the need for costly modifications or downtime, making it an accessible and practical step for farmers and business owners looking to transition to lower-carbon fuel solutions.

HVO is playing an increasingly significant role as a transitional fuel, enabling customers to reduce emissions from their operations while supporting longer-term net zero ambitions.

Farming influencer and Certas Energy ambassador Olly Harrison said: "It's been brilliant to see The Great British Farm Fest come to life and bring the farming community together in such a big way. I'm really proud to have played my part.

"Seeing the event powered by HVO from Certas Energy really brings home just how practical and impactful switching from diesel can be.

"Many think that switching to HVO means you need to do it overnight, but it doesn't have to be a case of all or nothing. Even transitioning one vehicle at a time can make a world of difference."

Leigh Claridge, Head of Sales at Certas Energy, said: "This weekend has been a wonderful experience. We welcomed a great mix of visitors to our stand, from children and young families to farmers and corporate organisations that are looking for solutions to their challenges.

"Our super knowledgeable, super engaged team were on hand throughout the three-day event to answer customers' burning questions and help them to break down some of the challenges they are facing. We felt incredibly proud to be able to help our farming and business customers to navigate these.

"As an energy transition partner, we're committed to guiding our customers at every stage of their transition journey, whether we're supplying them with solar panels to ensure their farm runs as efficiently as possible, or supplying the HVO that powers a company's fleet, even if they're transitioning to HVO one vehicle at a time.

"We're proud to support our customers and help them to achieve their commercial and sustainability goals not only today, but also into the future. We do this by being a partner in every sense of the word, holding their hands throughout the process.

"It has been a pleasure to support The Great British Farm Fest and of course, play a part in supporting many of the farming business owners who attended over the three days."
