Young farmers asked for views on sustainable future farm sector

CEJA, which represents 2 million young farmers, is conducting a major survey of its membership to gather their views on the future of the farm sector. The group is trying to attract attention from young farmers across Europe in the hope of gaining insight into the thoughts and priorities of the upcoming generation of farmers at this tumultuous time.

The 20-question survey, which is supported by dairy systems company DeLaval and can be accessed here, covers issues such as business viability, environmental sustainability, lifestyles in rural communities, and investment in animal welfare. There is also a major focus on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform and the theme of General Renewal in the EU Commission’s forthcoming proposals.

The survey is available in eight languages and is open to all young farmers of the 28 EU countries.

The results will be presented in a final report in September 2017 during an event in the European Parliament.

Speaking at the survey’s launch, CEJA President Alan Jagoe stressed that “without the input of young farmers in their future I don’t see how policymakers can make the informed decisions we need to see at the European stage. We as CEJA are happy to partner with DeLaval to support further research into the sector.”

Joakim Rosengren, President & CEO of DeLaval, added, “DeLaval is committed to support the next generation of farmers towards a more sustainable and profitable agriculture. We are very pleased to collaborate with CEJA on this survey and we look forward receiving the answers from young farmers across Europe on this important matter”.
