What is she telling you? – Cow Signals Workshops

A series of GB wide Cow Signals workshops have been designed to increase farmers’ understanding of cow behaviour and show how changes to their environment can improve productivity, health and longevity.

Led by Cow Signal Master Trainers and limited to 15 attendees per workshop, these on-farm sessions will help farmers identify the signs of underlying problems, highlight risk areas and share practical solutions.

Aimed at farmers and their staff who house their herd for most of the year, the workshops support AHDB’s strategic aim to accelerate productivity growth to get the best out of  production systems.

David Ball, AHDB Environment & Buildings Senior Manager and Cow Signals Master Trainer said: “Farmers look at their cows every day and their behaviour, habits and physical appearance can all give clues to their health, wellbeing and comfort.

“We’re encouraging farmers to see their cows from a fresh perspective, to take time to really examine their behaviour and habits. Are their cubicles providing optimal comfort, are the feeding facilities optimised? Are there physical signs indicating that her environment could be affecting her wellbeing and productivity?

“By noticing these signals, we can improve their well-being, productivity and longevity – leading to a more profitable business.”
