Wanted: Beta testers for new BCMS app

Farming Online needs no more than five farmers, willing to help test a pre-release, beta version of the new BCMS Cattle Tracing System movement App, which is nearing the end of its development.

Testing will involve entering details into the android smartphone app, which is currently in its white label format. The app has been in development for two months, with assistance from BCMS.

Using the CTS Movement App will allow farmers to:

  • Store BCMS data digitally, ending the time consuming requirement to re-enter basic information and speeding up recording of movement data;
  • Look back into animals' family history, which can be shared when cattle are bought and sold or transferred to other formats;
  • Make notes on individual animals, meaning busy users can keep track of cattle's medical situation or check when heifers are in oestrus

Furthermore, there is scope to facilitate sharing of data via Bluetooth, which would also help in uploading data from scanned electronic eartags. This feature may be part of a later release of the app.

How do I know whether the app has worked?

In order to check the new tool is working correctly, testers will have to submit their information using a visual basic, beta version of the app, and then check information entered with BCMS.

Farmers interested in testing the new app should email Farming Online, using the contact form here and selecting 'general' enquiry form the drop down menu.

Once data has been collected from the Beta testers, a fully branded version of the app, complete with design features and improved interface will be completed for general release. Full release of the cutting edge new android app is expected within the month.
