Video promotes farming's place in green economy

A video highlighting the need for investment in agriculture to build a green economy has been released in the run-up to G20 debates taking place in Cannes, France today (3rd November). The Farming First Coalition produced the video to promote the importance of sustainable agriculture as a means to increase food production, increase efficient water use and improve livelihoods.

The G20 leaders will be meeting to discuss food security, infrastructure and the financing of development. Since the 1980s, government funding for agriculture has dropped off; the aim of the Farming First video is to increase awareness of how investment in sustainable agriculture could empower people around the world.

At last year’s summit in Seoul most commentators argued that only limited progress was made as leaders were generally unable to agree on key issues, although the delegates did make commitments to support country-led green growth strategies and further discuss investment in research and development.
