Useful Farming Apps for the coming weeks
Three apps you may find useful over the coming weeks are the CropMonitor wheat disease risk app, BASF's weed identity app and the soon to be launched Farming Online Harvest results app.

CropMonitor Wheat Disease App
The CropMonitor app comes with a disease sightings module. Here you can submit your own disease sightings to the CropMonitor app which then appear on a map within the app showing field sightings. This year the submission form has been update to take into account the late development of Septoria.
The delays in T1 fungicide applications coupled with the wet and cold April have played havoc with disease control this year. There are reports of crops now showing Septoria on final leaf 3 and two, something most growers would hope to avoid. CropMonitor are interested in knowing how extensive this problem is and by submitting your own sightings you will help the plant pathologist build up a realistic picture of how this disease has developed this year.
It may also give you small comfort to realise your are not alone in finding this disease at such high levels in your own crops. Reports coming in yesterday (4 June) suggest that we may have come to the end of another latency period with agronomists finding more crops with Septoria on the top leaves than last week.
BASF Weed Identity APP
Another app is the BASF weed identity app. One useful feature is the facility to map weeds on your own farm. More grass weeds are appearing above the crop now and the ability to record these on a map on your phone is a great way of keeping a record of problem weeds on the farm. This module in the app can be used to either show a map or a list of the weeds along with field name. The map also has a useful feature in that it shows your current location along side where you mapped the weed allowing you to return to the same area in the field in the next crop.
All useful stuff in the armoury to keep on top of difficult weeds in the rotation.
Farming Online Harvest Results App
And coming very soon is the Farming Online Harvest Results app. This will allow you to submit yield data to the annual Harvest Results survey straight from you phone. It keeps a record of your results and allows you to compare your yields with the national averages as they happen.
