After climate talks in Marrakech earlier this month, at which world leaders turned their attention to agriculture’s potential for cutting emissions and called for “Drastic” changes to realise this, the UN is looking into fundamental changes that can transform agriculture from an emitter of greenhouse gasses on par with energy production, to a sector that traps atmospheric carbon.

However, campaigners say that more sensitive investment plans are needed to prevent development efforts from becoming little more than money spinners for big business.
