"It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of LEAF’s chief executive, Caroline Drummond, who passed away yesterday afternoon, Monday 23rd May, after a short illness aged 58.

Caroline is best known for her role as LEAF's Chief Executive having served LEAF for 30 years and gained the following awards : Hon DSc, NSch, HonFSE, FRAgS, FIAgM, FRSA, FSB, CEnv, BSc (Hons) Agric.
Caroline was also a driving force behind Open Farm Sunday.
She received an MBE for services to the agricultural industry in 2009.
NFU President Minette Batters tweeted: “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Caroline’s passing. She was a tour de force within the agricultural community, her sense of purpose and commitment was renowned, and for which she will be greatly missed."
RSPCA Assured: "Very sad to hear about Caroline. She did so much to promote farming, bringing passion and commitment. She really was an inspiration. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family."
Sue Pritchard ( Food & Farming Commission) said: "Devastating news. Caroline was a good, supportive and critical friend to us all who could always be relied on to be straight with us, with her trademark warmth and humour. She leaves a brilliant legacy in and all those she inspired to change."

Farmer and Broadcaster David Richardson tweeted: "The spontaneous outpouring of grief at Caroline Drummond’s tragic death is a fitting tribute to a remarkable lady. She knew and was known by everyone who was anyone in farming and food and as their comments show they all loved and respected her. What a lady!
