Sundown launches new livestock feed range at LAMMA 2026
Sundown Products has launched two new ruminant feeds at LAMMA 2026 with a focus on supporting good rumen health to improve feed conversion efficiency and performance potential.
RumiCube 10 joins an expanded straights range alongside digestible fibre feed NIS (Nutritionally Improved Straw). While a new Complete Calf Feed includes three age-specific feeds to take calves from birth to six months of age.
David Cubitt, Director of Sundown says, "These products are based on well-understood rumen science and digestible ingredients, and will improve rumen health and economic performance.
"Over the past three years we have undertaken significant investment in product development and manufacturing facilities to create these products, and we are delighted to launch them at LAMMA 26."
RumiCube 10 is a high-starch, high digestible fibre, pelleted feed designed to buffer good-quality grass. Its high level of digestible, lignified forage fibre helps keep the rumen stable, even when animals are grazing lush pasture.
"High starch improves how efficiently the rumen uses the protein in grass, while the relatively low protein content of RumiCube 10 helps prevent excess protein intake. The result is better rumen balance, improved protein utilisation, and more efficient animal performance," says Mr Cubitt.
The new Complete Calf Feed includes three age-specific feeds to match the needs of the developing rumen, from birth to six-months of age.
Calf Starter is a highly palatable, high starch feed that encourages critical early intake of digestible ingredients, and kick-starts rumen development at the earliest possible opportunity. Used from birth to just before weaning, it includes Triple P probiotic for gut support.
Just before weaning starts, Calf Weaner is introduced to support weaning transition with increased intakes. High starch from multiple sources, and high digestible fibre from NIS, work together to provide the energy needed for rapid growth alongside healthy rumen function.
Just after weaning, calves move on to Calf Grower until six months of age. It is higher in digestible forage fibre and slightly lower in starch, with multiple protein and starch sources. This helps prevent the 'post-weaning slump' and maintains high growth rates during the most economical growth stage of the calf's life. At the same time, Calf Grower continues to develop the rumen by increasing gut microbe diversity, until it reaches full maturity at about six months.
"Current farm trials indicate that the Complete Calf Feed could reduce weaning age by five days, without a post-weaning slump, resulting in a significant reduction in calf rearing costs," explains Mr Cubitt.
Straights are available in bulk, either tipped or blown, while calf feed is available bagged or in bulk.
Key to Sundown's new feed range is the use of mostly UK-derived ingredients, including high quality forage fibre and protein from UK-produced straw, grain, and pulses. This keeps the carbon footprint of the feed low, while providing all the nutrition required for respective growth and production stages.
