Stray firework causes barn blaze in Cambridgeshire

Emergency Services in Cambridgeshire have said a stray firework was responsible for a barn fire in Woolley, near Huntingdon on Saturday evening which destroyed farm machinery and equipment.

The fire destroyed the barn, as well as some machinery and over 30 tonnes of baled hay stored within. Three horses were brought to safety with the help of firefighters. Over 30 firefighters are said to have attended the blaze, which started around 21.00 on Saturday (3rd November).

A neighbour alerted the farm’s owners to the blaze.

Farm owner Maggie Harris told reporters that the level of support from friends and firefighters had been “amazing.” She said people had brought hay for her horses in the wake of the fire, though lamented that the fire had cost her horses’ winter stock as well as a tractor and trailer.
