South East Water exceeds an industry environmental average by more than 50 per cent

South East Water proudly announces an important milestone in its environmental stewardship, with 73 per cent of its company-owned Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) managed to a favourable condition, surpassing the industry average of 16.4 per cent.

The water company owns or manages 33 SSSIs, which are designated areas of particular importance due to their unique wildlife, habitats, or geological features. This achievement underscores the company’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the precious natural environments from which it takes its water.

The drinking water-only company has worked diligently to protect these areas, implementing robust environmental management practices, collaborating with local conservation organisations, and investing in sustainable initiatives to ensure a resilient water supply for now and in the future.

South East Water's Head of Environment, Emma Goddard, commented: "We are incredibly proud to have reached this significant achievement. Managing 73 per cent of our SSSIs to a favourable condition reflects our commitment to safeguarding the environment and preserving the area's biodiversity.

"Our efforts not only protect natural habitats but ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy a healthy environment and maintain enough water for everyone. We endeavour to improve the remaining 27 per cent of our Sites of Special Scientific Interest to the same standard of favourable condition. "
