Solar PV installations continue to be a favourite of the farming community

Solar PV continues to shine:

Solar PV installations continue to be a favourite of the farming community as lower prices and new technology mean they continue to be a sound financial investment.

Prices have fallen by more than 30% over the last 12 months, and rates of return achievable on 50kWp+ systems continue to be in excess of 13%. For example, a 50kWp system now costs just £65,000 (excluding VAT) for a fully installed system. This would return £9,031 per annum, giving an annual return of 13.89% and a payback period of 7.19 years. Also, the annual payments are inflation adjusted in line with the RPI and guaranteed for 25 years.

Thin film technology makes installations easier to install with less structural issues. Whilst thin film takes up more space, the technology is also more efficient - generating up to 25% more energy than traditional PV panels. They are also cheaper to purchase and install and systems can easily return in excess of 15% per annum with payback periods of less than 7 years.

However, the main benefit of being green often gets overlooked: reputation. Have you thought of promoting your green credentials to product purchasers? Sainsbury's, Tesco's and all the other large buyers are now under huge pressure to have sustainable business structures and this means they are looking for green suppliers. If you are green then this helps them become green, and can help you secure a new client! Your green credentials should be promoted to help you secure new business and/or higher prices for your goods.
