SoilPoint launches pioneering soil health trial with Cornish Mutual and Terrafarmer

Five farms will take part in the trial which aims to boost soil health, build organic matter and increase crop yields.

  • Trial will use SoilPoint's Soil Booster five farms covered by Cornish Mutual in South West England
  • SoilPoint's Soil Booster can increase yields by up to 30% or more, reduce GHG emissions and naturally restore depleted soils.
  • After the trial, a commercial arrangement will be discussed to distribute the product more widely to Cornish Mutual's customer base in the UK
SoilPoint Humic Co ("SoilPoint") has entered into a three-way partnership with Cornish Mutual Assurance Co Ltd ("Cornish Mutual"), an insurance provider that specialises in farming insurance, and Terrafarmer Agriculture Co Ltd "Terrafarmer"), a specialist in soil health and regenerative farming solutions.
The partnership means that SoilPoint's Soil Booster – a natural, humic-based soil conditioner that can help farmers boost yields by up to 30% or more – will be trialled on five farms, covered by Cornish Mutual, in the South West of England.
At the end of the trial, the parties will review the results and discuss a commercial arrangement to distribute the product more widely to Cornish Mutual's Farming Member base in the South-West of England.
SoilPoint's Soil Booster is approved by the UK Soil Association and certified for use in organic and conventional farming. Trials done in other countries have shown SoilPoint's Soil Booster can repair damaged topsoil, replacing or considerably reducing the need for expensive, applied synthetic fertilisers. Through its ability to help increase soil organic matter, as well as increased yields, farmers benefit from improved soil structure, increased water retention and greater carbon sequestration.
SoilPoint's Soil Booster will provide practical help to British farmers by increasing soil fertility and productivity. This will help overcome some of the financial and regulatory challenges they are facing, in part by repairing the environmental damage caused by chemical fertilisers, as well as reducing costs.
Alan Forrester, CEO at SoilPoint UK, said: "The trial gives SoilPoint a flying start to its entry into the UK farming market. Cornish Mutual and Terrafarmer have a deep understanding of the science of soil health and the needs of British farmers. This endorsement of SoilPoint's Soil Booster is encouraging, and we look forward to working with farms across the UK to help them increase yields and reduce their reliance on harmful fertilisers."
Sam Collins, General Manager at Terrafarmer, said: "Following a review of the trial results, we hope to look at how we might further support UK farmers and SoilPoint's aspirations for the UK market."
Cornish Mutual's Managing Director Peter Beaumont added: "Cornish Mutual is committed to helping our Members build and maintain profitable farms through the agricultural transition. Soil Booster is an interesting new product for UK farmers, and we are excited to see the outcome of these commercial trials."
