Soil Association looks to recruit a Director of Innovation

The Soil Association is a membership charity that believes in the vital connection between soil, food, the health of people and the health of the planet. Our goal is to deliver solutions for healthy, humane and resilient food, farming and land use. We are the foremost organic charity and today we have 40,000 public members and supporters as well as a strong reputation for effecting change.

These are exciting times at the Soil Association. Our new Director, Helen Browning, is committed to broadening our influence and appeal. As part of this new strategy, we are recruiting for a Director of Innovation to lead the Soil Association in ensuring a robust approach to interpreting the science and evidence base that supports our work and in encouraging a research and development agenda that is socially fair and environmentally sustainable.

This role will help us move even further towards our founding principles by developing organic standards and new schemes and by improving transfer approaches. S/he will enable rapid and accurate translation of research and technological developments into ethical policy and practice across all our work.

To succeed, you will need to be confident in research communities, have a successful track record in influencing policy makers and government, first class management skills and the tenacity to plan, execute and deliver effectively. You will be expected to play a strategic role as a member of the Executive Team and have the responsibility for decision making across the organisation.

In return, we offer you the opportunity to champion practical approaches to the pressing issues of climate change, food security, health and nutrition within a charity where you have the opportunity for real impact.
