Arable farmers have the chance to see the new see 2023 Recommended List candidate varieties on demonstration at the Stockbridge Technology Centre, near Selby, on 22 June 2022.

The variety and trials day event, which is organised by Wynnstay, is free to attend and open to all arable farmers, and includes tours of the new AHDB additions ahead of autumn decision making.

With 65 plots on show, Wynnstay’s national arable sales manager, Nigel Britland, highlights the key ones to look out for at the event, which include both new and existing AHDB candidate varieties of wheat and barley.

“There’s a trial plot of Champion, from DSV, the new highest yielding AHDB winter wheat, which can be compared to KWS Dawsum, another Group 4 high-yielding variety,” he says.

“For barley, attendees will be able to compare Syngenta’s hybrid six-row varieties to the new two-row varieties – KWS Tardis and Elsoms Bolton,” he adds.

In addition to seeing the demonstration plots, attendees will be able to speak to top breeders from Limagrain UK as well as Wynnstay arable specialists.

“The Wynnstay team will be on hand to discuss the merits of the varieties and suitability for different farm systems.

“There will also be a moisture meter clinic on-site, carrying out free calibrations, to allow you to have confidence in the accuracy of readings from your meter,” says Mr Britland.

The event will take place from 4pm to 8pm, with refreshments available on-site, and BASIS and NRoSO points be available to all attendees.
