Skills in the spotlight at Cereals

Visitors to the AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds stand at Cereals are invited to have their say on what skills will be needed for farms to thrive in the future.

By recording answers to three key questions in a dedicated video booth, growers and other members of the industry can help shape AHDB’s skills and training offer.

The recordings will feed into AHDB’s Skills Initiative, which aims to secure a professional and adaptable agricultural workforce for the future.

Tess Howe, Industry Skills Project Manager at AHDB: “We’re really keen to canvas views across the cereals sector about what skills and training will be needed in future, both to allow the industry to adapt and evolve to the challenges ahead and to ensure individuals working in the sector can make the most of the opportunities out there.

“Cereals is a great chance to meet people involved in the industry in so many different roles and at so many different levels of experience. I would encourage people to take part and help influence the future of the profession.”

As an additional incentive, those who take part at the event on 10 – 11 June will be entered into a prize draw to win an iPad. Those who won’t be attending the event but still want to have their say can upload a video of their answers to the following questions and tweet it to @HGCA_tweet.

• What makes a grower professional?
• What new skills do you need to learn to meet future challenges?
• How can AHDB support growers to become successful and professional?

On the day, visitors will also be able to talk to staff about the new Trailblazer apprenticeship standard currently being developed by AHDB, EDGE Apprenticeships, Lantra and the NFU.
