Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2355 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £83/head and 183.3p/kg to average 156.8p.

The firm also had 526 cast sheep forward with all classes sharper on the week. Ewes sold to £102 for Suffolks and £61.50 for Blackfaces to average £57.90 (+£6.56 on the week).

John Swan Ltd sold 48 prime bullocks at St Boswells to a top of 200p and averaged 167.9p (-3.1p on the week), while 69 prime heifers sold to 205p and averaged 167.3p (+2.6p).

There were also 126 beef- type OTM cattle forward that averaged 96.2p.

In the sheep ring 2101 prime lambs sold to £84/head and 195p/kg to average 167.2p (+9.6p). The 1117 cast ewes sold to £109 and averaged £50.83 (+£1.09).

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held their fortnightly sale of store cattle in Dumfries yesterday when there were 441 forward. Quality was mixed and trade for the best types continued to please vendors. Bullocks sold to 194.9p and averaged 149.4p, while heifers sold to 205.4p and averaged 151.3p.

The firm also held its monthly sale of dairy cattle with 19 forward that met a sound trade selling to a top of £2100 (x2) for two outstanding Ayrshire cows.
