Scottish beef lobbying associations in merger

Discussions are underway between Scotland’s two beef farming lobbying organisations. The Scottish Beef Cattle Association and the National Beef Association Scotland have held talks on merging to form a single body. The two groups have said meetings are going to plan and a merger could take place as early as Spring 2012.

Hamish McBean, chair of NBA Scotland, said “Specific details will need to be ironed out but we are all committed to becoming one;” he announced that he was “delighted” at the progress.

The groups have said that, through unification as one single body, the organisation will have more weight to stand up for the political, technical and marketing interests of Scottish beef farmers. Scott Henderson of the Scottish Beef Cattle Association, said there is a clear voice in the beef sector calling for a single beef organisation to represent farmers.
