Scottish ag workers receive pay rise

The Scottish Agricultural Wages Board has confirmed a rise in wages for farm workers from October.

Wage rates were agreed by the Wages Board on 20th August. From 1st October, the minimum rate of pay for agricultural workers with more than 26 weeks continuous employment will increase by 15p per hour to £7.14. The minimum wage for a week's work (39 hours) will rise to £278.46.

Hourly rates for workers in the first 26 weeks of employment also increased, alongside rises for workers in apprenticeship schemes, overtime and various tied-in allowances. Full details are available from the Scottish Government here.

Ahead of the dissolution of England's wage board, Defra acknowledged that dismantling the quango – which arbitrated negotiations between representatives of workers and their employers – would translate into losses for farm labourers.
