Royal Welsh Show – Aberystwyth University Events

Monday 21 July
- Innovation in the Agri-tech and Food-tech Clusters for mid & north Wales
09:00-11:30
Organised by AberInnovation, in partnership with Innovate UK, Welsh Government and regional partners
A session exploring how the mid and north Wales Agri-tech and Food Technology Launchpad can drive innovation and growth. A panel of sector leaders will discuss funding opportunities, current project strengths, and the vision for developing regional clusters.
- Five Key Challenges for Rural Wales – LPIP Cymru

What are the major rural issues for next year's Senedd elections in Wales? And other future elections?
The LPIP Cymru Wledig project showcase will outline 'Five Key Challenges for Rural Wales' that parties should consider in their manifestos, and some thoughts on how they might be addressed.

- Collaborative network between human and veterinary healthcare

Dr Gwenllian Rees, One Health
A One Health workshop bringing together front-of-house veterinary practice staff and human healthcare workers to discuss One Health approaches to antimicrobial stewardship across human and animal health. This is a collaborative project involving Aberystwyth University, University of Bristol, Public Health Wales and Hywel Dda Health Board.

- Managing liver fluke on the farm

Dr Rhys Aled Jones
Academics will share how their research can help farmers manage liver fluke more effectively, improving the health and productivity levels of sheep and cattle as well as tackling resistance to the drugs used to treat animals.
Throughout the Show
In addition to the above discussions, sessions will be held throughout the week by the Department of Life Sciences, School of Veterinary Science and the Healthcare Education Centre, along with exhibitions of research from the Department of Psychology, and work on parasites and robots – all focusing on the University’s theme of improving rural life.
The University's Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences is also hosting an exhibition stand (877CCA), demonstrating a wide variety of its work, including grass breeding, biomass and oat research.
