Revolutionary foliar fertiliser reduces nitrogen requirement and slashes nitrate losses
BFS Fertiliser Services, a leading crop nutrition specialist, has launched a revolutionary range of foliar fertilisers. The new BFS PolyNPlus range represents a significant breakthrough in the industry’s efforts to enhance nitrogen efficiency and reduce nitrates in the soil and groundwater. Formulated with urea polymers, sulphur and selected trace elements, it has four major new advantages:
- The PolyNPlus range reduces the amount of nitrogen needed without lowering yields.
- It virtually eliminates nitrate losses.
- It is extremely safe to apply as a foliar fertiliser.
- It can be tank-mixed with crop protection products.

Farmers testing PolyNPlus for the first time in 2017 reported significant increases in yield. They also found that PolyNPlus increased crop protein levels when used later in the season and was very easy to use.
For any farmer wanting to maximise productivity in an environmentally sustainable way, PolyNPlus fertilisers are the way forward. They provide a controlled release of nitrogen in a form much more easily absorbed by the crop than traditional products. And, with their improved leaf adhesion, they dramatically reduce volatilisation and leaching and therefore the potential impact of fertilisers on the environment.
As well as reducing nitrate groundwater pollution, there is an extremely low risk of crop scorch because of the product’s low salt index. PolyNPlus, which can be applied with standard spray jets (BFS Air Bubble Jets are ideal), can also be used alongside a wide range of crop protection products, reducing the number of passes needed and therefore saving application costs.
PolyNPlus, which should be diluted in the standard volume of water, is suitable for any crop requiring nitrogen throughout the growing season. It can also be particularly advantageous in a dry season, when soil-applied and solid fertilisers may be less effective. Additional trace elements can also be added to PolyNPlus based on specific agronomic requirements.
The product is available throughout the UK and in the Republic of Ireland in 1,000 litre IBC containers from BFS and selected distribution partners.
Rosalind Platt, managing director at BFS Fertiliser Services, said: “In our 70 years at BFS, we have never been as excited about a product. Our new PolyNPlus range of foliar nitrogen is a quantum leap forward - less is needed for the same results as conventional nitrogen and there are virtually no nitrate losses. Uniquely, BFS are also able to tailor the product to add individual farmers’ specific trace element requirements.”
