Record oilseed rape yields for Shropshire farmer

Guy Davies of Little Ness in Shropshire is recording some phenomenal yields of oilseed rape this year.

The crops were all established using minimum tillage and sown at a low seed rate of around 35 seed/m2 in September. "They’ve looked good all year", says Guy, although they did seem to suffer a bit in the dry spring. However, most of the crops are on good fertile land. The barley has done well too, although not as consistent as the rape crops, ranging from 5.7 – 9.4 tonnes/ha. All the crops are weighed over a stamped weigh bridge.
