Prince's Countryside Fund open for grant applications
Prince of Wales charity, The Prince’s Countryside Fund opens its latest grant application window on 24th September for one month. If you can demonstrate that you have a project ‘Supporting the people who take care of our countryside’ then consider applying for up to £50,000!
The UK countryside is one of our greatest national assets. Not only does it provide 60% of our food and 70% of our drinking water but is vital for tourism and recreation. Projects supported by The Prince’s Countryside Fund tackle some of the major issues facing our rural areas by improving service provision, supporting farm businesses and rural enterprises, providing training opportunities for young people and educating people about the value of the countryside.
Anyone can apply but you need to demonstrate that your project or organisation is tackling one of the following issues.
- Rural isolation
- Low farming incomes
- Decline of rural communities
- Lack of access to training
- Disconnect with the countryside
The Prince’s Countryside Fund is supported by a number of ambassadors, including model and actress Elizabeth Hurley, farmer Jimmy Doherty and former England Rugby captain Phil Vickery. The Prince of Wales’s charity has helped more than 20,000 people since 2010 and has given away over £1.7 in grants to 50 projects across the UK. More detailed information on the criteria for eligibility can be found on the website at www.princescountrysidefund.org.uk
So far more than 100 rural communities have benefited from PCF funding to improve services such as rural transport, access to pubs, shops and post offices. Whilst 366 rural enterprises have benefited from advice, support and funding. Victoria Harris, Director of The Prince’s Fund comments “We are delighted by how many applications we receive in each funding round. This time we are particularly interested in projects that will have a long term benefit. Do you have an innovative idea of how to help our rural communities or are looking to start up a rural enterprise that could revolutionise your community? If so then please apply. We don’t want to give hand outs but support those organisations that work on the ground every day and know how to make a difference.”
Members of the general public who would like to support can make a donation over the counter at The Post Office or via our text service. Please text PCF to 70300 and a £3 donation will be made automatically to The Prince’s Countryside Fund.
