Preparing for a new agricultural world

Grain Market Outlook is the leading UK conference on global grain markets, hosted by AHDB. This year it takes place on 12 October in London.

Each October at the annual conference, four experts give an exclusive and unique analysis of cereal and oilseeds markets from a UK perspective, highlighting long-term trends and delving into the depths of market influences.

This year’s conference is designed to help prepare the industry for a new, post-referendum agricultural world, where issues like productivity, consolidation and efficiency are becoming ever more prevalent.

Jack Watts, AHDB Lead Analyst, said, “The conference is timed to bring the latest market insights at the height of the marketing season. This year, as well as grain and oilseed market outlooks, the conference will hear about the likely driving forces behind UK and EU agricultural policy given that the CAP will be going through reform while the UK is developing its own policy.

“Brexit adds a longer-term theme of uncertainty to the usual vagaries of the grain and oilseed markets. The immediate impact has of course been depreciation of the pound, which has helped export competitiveness. Add to this wheat quality issues on the continent, the expectation of lower production in the UK as well as the continued shift in the type of varieties UK farmers are growing and we have what looks like a new agricultural world.”

Presentations this year will include:

Grain market outlook

  • Oilseeds market outlook
  • Domestic agricultural policy and CAP evolution
  • International competitiveness in grain and oilseed production
