Pig farming organisation scoops prize

Yesterday at an industry breakfast, the organisation received the David Black Award for their exceptional contribution to the country’s pig industry.

Presented by Farming Minister George Eustice to Ladies in Pigs chairman Sue Woodall, the organisation scooped the highest honour the British Industry has to offer.

Ms Woodall said: “It is a real honour for us to be recognised by the industry but it really has been a tremendous team effort and once the members realise the magnitude of it, I’m sure they will be absolutely delighted.

“All the members, and we now have about 300, are absolutely passionate about promoting British pork.”

Ladies in Pigs was founded in 1990 by Glenda Montgomery and Miranda Shufflebotham and was created in reaction to poor pig prices to market and promote British pork.

The organisation has since gone from strength to strength with more than forty corporate members and a strong following on social media and their new website.

Their schedule is packed with tours and shows in schools, supermarkets and various venues where they can promote British pork through their mobile kitchen.

Farming success continued when The Sausage Oscar, for services to bangers, was awarded to Charles Baughan of Westaways Sausages, a global sausage provider.
