Performance information for new SDHI
HGCA has updated fungicide performance information to include a new SDHI fungicide penthiopyrad.
The results are from one year’s data so should be treated with caution according to Paul Gosling, Research and Knowledge Transfer Manager at HGCA. “We only have data from 2012 for penthiopyrad, so to make fair comparisons we just used data from last year for all products. In addition, in 2012 there was very high disease pressure which may have influenced the results.”
As a protectant against Septoria tritici the penthiopyrad/epoxiconazole mixture gave similar disease control to the established SDHI/azole products. In an eradicant situation, the penthiopyrad/epoxiconazole mixture gave a solid performance in comparison with other products in the trial. These results emphasise that a protectant programme is needed to achieve good control of Septoria tritici, particularly under high disease pressure.
Against yellow rust and brown rust, the pattern was similar with penthiopyrad in a mixture matching the performance of benchmark products.
