Pay rise for Scottish agricultural workers
The Scottish Agricultural Wages Board today agreed to proposed wage rates from October 2012 following a meeting last week.
Under the new agreement the basic rate of pay for agricultural workers with more than 26 weeks continuous employment will increase by 19p per hour to £6.86, meaning the minimum wage for a 39 hour week will rise to £267.54.
The basic rate of pay for agricultural workers with less than 26 weeks continuous employment will increase by 11p per hour to £6.22, bringing the minimum wage for a 39 hour week to £242.58.
The proposed hourly rates are:
- £6.22 (an increase of 11p per hour) for those in the first 26 weeks of employment
- £6.86 (an increase of 19p per hour) for those employed for more that 26 weeks by the same employer
- £3.81 (an increase of 11p per hour) for workers who undertake a Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship in Agriculture
Workers with appropriate qualifications should also be paid an additional £1.04 per hour (an increase of 3p per hour). Those working with dogs should receive an allowance of £5.20 per week for each dog up to a maximum of four. A rise in the daily rate of the accommodation off-set for accommodation, other than a house, to £4.82 per day.
The proposals will be subject to discussions in June and August.
