Parliament CAP vote scheduled for 20th November

The European Parliament has announced that it will vote on Common Agricultural Policy reform at its plenary session on 20th November.

As agricultural spending accounts for one third of the total EU budget, making CAP the largest single spend in the EU budget, the reform of the common farming policy has been a major issue noth within and outside farming.

The final Parliament vote on the EU's long-term budget, which has been negotiated alongside CAP policy – a state of affairs which has drawn criticism from some groups, as EU legislators were forced to make judgements on the EU's future agriculture policy without knowing what the actual CAP spend would be – will also take place during the November plenary session.

The Parliament, the Council and the European Commission struck a deal on the revision of the EU's common agricultural policy on 26th June 2013, which was then refined and backed by the Parliament's agriculture committee on 30th September. The Committee's decision will be subject to the scrutiny of Parliament as a whole on 20th November.
