Oilseed rape likely to escape pollen beetle this year

The outlook for this week from BBC Weather is for not much change in temperatures – continuing to range around 10C. This is too cool to favour significant migration but will allow oilseed rape crops to continue putting on noticeable growth.

Records being received back from volunteers in Dr Sam Cook’s project show that many oilseed rape crops are now close to flowering. Given the current weather forecast Dr Cook therefore predicts; “Spring 2016 is shaping up to be one where crops could mostly make it past the damage susceptible stage before we see pollen beetle in significant numbers.”
