NFU elections: Kendall to stand unchallenged
NFU president Peter Kendall will go into the forthcoming NFU officeholder elections unchallenged next month, looking set to serve a fourth term as president of the union. No challengers came forward by 5pm on Wednesday, when the nomination window closed, after deputy president Meurig Raymond announced he was withdrawing from the race for presidency on Tuesday.
Mr Kendall must still secure 75 per cent of the ballot to be reelected, as he has already served three terms in office. It is understood that, even if he is successful in February, he will stand down at the end of his term in 2014.
The Deputy and Vice presidential places remain contested; voting will take place after NFU annual conference and AGM in Birmingham and the results will be posted on online on 22nd February 2012. The successful candidates will serve for two years.
The nominees will now travel around the country to every NFU region to take part in hustings.
