NFU election: final nominees announced
Candidates have been announced for the NFU officeholder elections, after nominations closed at 5pm on Wednesday 15th January.
In the presidential race, no new candidates have come forward since current vice president Adam Quinney announced his intention to stand earlier this week, prompting Essex delegate Guy Smith to withdraw. This means the presidency will now be contested by Quinney, who is also standing for deputy president, and current deputy president Meurig Raymond.
Incumbent president Peter Kendall announced his intention to retire from the presidency at the end of the current term (his fourth) in October last year.
Now that the officeholder nominees have been named, they will travel to each regional NFU branch to take part in hustings ahead of the election, which will take place at the NFU conference in Birmingham on 26th February. Officeholders will take up their posts from 2014 to 2016.
