New website boost for British carrot industry
The British Carrot Growers’ Association has revamped its website in an effort to boost the profile of the popular vegetable. Having teamed up with Elsoms Seeds, the new site features recipes, a children’s section, and information on the green credentials of carrots and the fact that they are grown in the UK throughout the year.
According to the BCGA, the carrot is the nation’s favourite vegetable; carrots are high in beta-carotene, high in fibre and low in calories. As such, the new website is aimed at increasing consumption amongst youngsters.
Martin Evans, BCGA Chair, said, "There is no doubt that more and more consumers are using the web to search for recipes and we need to ensure that British carrots have a high profile. The site encourages consumers to not just use carrots for roasts but also in salads, stir-fries, soups and risottos, as well as the ever popular carrot cake."
