New Speed Shear competition announced for NSA Highland Sheep 2025

Farmers, shearers, and industry professionals from across the UK and beyond will gather at Midfearn Farm, Ardgay, Ross-shire, this June for the much-anticipated NSA Highland Sheep 2025 event.

Among the many exciting highlights pf the event will be a Speed Shear competition, an electrifying contest that will showcase the exceptional skill and precision of top shearers from the Highland region and beyond.

Speed Shear competitions are the ultimate test of speed, skill, and accuracy in sheep shearing. Competitors will race against the clock to shear a hogg in the shortest time possible, all while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and fleece quality. Each shearer must quickly and skillfully remove the fleece, ensuring a smooth and safe finish without leaving any long fibres. The timer begins with the first cut and ends with the last.

Euan Campbell, organising committee chairman for NSA Highland Sheep 2025, expressed his excitement: “We’re thrilled to bring this dynamic competition to NSA Highland Sheep 2025. It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the immense skill, speed, and precision of shearers, as well as create an exhilarating atmosphere for both competitors and spectators.”

The Speed Shear competition will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, at Midfearn Farm. The finals will start at 4.30pm followed by the presentation of awards. The competition is open to shearers from around the globe, and with no limit on entries, the event promises to be a thrilling display of shearers' talent and speed.
