New NFU dairy board chair
Gloucestershire farmer Rob Harrison has been elected as the new chair of the NFU national dairy board.
Mr Harrison, who farms 430 acres near Moreton-in-Marsh with his wife Emma, succeeds Mansel Raymond. He is a previous chair of the next generation dairy board.
Michael Oakes from Worcestershire was elected as the board’s new vice chair replacing Mr Harrison.
"I'd like to thank my predecessor Mansel Raymond, whose work on the voluntary code has put the dairy industry in a much stronger position for the future, and all the outgoing board members," said Mr Harrison, who added that he is "looking forward to the challenge ahead of me."
He said his appointment comes at a time when the dairy industry faces such problems as the recently sparked supermarket price war and that he will be seeking meetings with processors in a bit to address the challenge to the profitability of the dairy industry.
