New British Farming Awards Category to Champion Farm Safety Across UK Agriculture
The British Farming Awards has launched a brand-new Farm Safety Award for 2026, recognising individuals, businesses and initiatives that are making a positive difference to safety on UK farms.
The new category, sponsored by RABI, has been introduced as part of the British Farming Awards 2026, which is now open for entries and nominations across 21 categories. The Farm Safety Award will celebrate those demonstrating innovation, leadership and commitment to improving safety standards and reducing risk across the agricultural sector.
The award is being supported by the Lawman family, who will present the winner with the Andrew Lawman Safety Award Trophy at the British Farming Awards ceremony, taking place at The Vox, NEC Birmingham, on October 15, 2026. The trophy has been donated in memory of Andrew Lawman, who tragically lost his life in a farming incident in May 2023 at the age of 35. Through the award, the Lawman family hopes to raise awareness of farm safety, encourage safer working practices, and help prevent future accidents across the industry.
Commenting on the launch, Jill Hewitt, Chief Executive of the National Association of Agricultural Contractors (NAAC) and member of the Farm Safety Partnership Board, said: "We all have a responsibility for safety, whether as farmers, contractors, manufacturers or regulators, and this award recognises the importance of innovation, new ideas and best practice in protecting our workforce."
The introduction of the Farm Safety Award comes at a time when British agriculture continues to face significant challenges. Alongside ongoing pressures from government policy changes, environmental regulations and land use demands, the industry remains focused on delivering food production while protecting the wellbeing of those working within it.
Now in its 14th year and supported by Morrisons, the British Farming Awards celebrates the diversity, resilience and innovation of UK agriculture. The 2026 awards feature 18 returning categories alongside three new additions, Farm Safety Award, Agricultural Supplier of the Year and Farm Advisor of the Year, recognising excellence across farming, agri-tech, sustainability, diversification and the wider agricultural supply chain.
Following a record-breaking attendance at the 2025 awards ceremony, farmers, businesses and industry professionals are encouraged to nominate individuals and organisations whose work is helping to create a safer future for British agriculture.
