New accredited biosecurity training programme available for poultry teams

The first eLearning Poultry Passport accredited biosecurity course has been launched by Livetec Systems to help improve on-farm practices, reduce costly disease outbreaks and build resilience in the UK poultry sectors.

Amy Davies, biosecurity adviser and trainer for Livetec, says this course is the first in a series of accredited and certified content being developed by the expert biosecurity advisory team at Livetec.

With Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and African Swine Fever (ASF) posing significant risks to the agricultural industry, this farm-tailored training will prove a valuable tool for producers.

She explains: “Developed to help sectors facing complex and evolving biosecurity threats, our blended training programme includes eLearning short courses, in-person workshops and live online sessions – which enables in-house training programmes to be tailored to suit each business's needs.”

Supporting employee development across the industry, the training programme is on offer for those working in organisations of all shapes and sizes and will be adapted to each business's unique needs.

“The training programme is designed to give farm staff the knowledge they need to improve on-farm practices, to protect both people and animals, and prevent potentially devastating disease outbreaks,” says Mrs Davies.

“As part of our overall training programme, we’ve launched eLearning courses to address a growing need in the sector for flexible, on demand training which can be completed at the learner’s own pace. This makes it easier to fit training into a busy work schedule, whilst still ensuring valuable accreditation is achieved.”

Training courses on offer

The first course is available and online now. It covers biosecurity and hygiene in the poultry sector, helping reduce the risk of disease outbreaks on poultry farms.

A further three courses will be available over the next couple of months. “This includes a manual handling short course which offers practical, in-person sessions focusing on safe lifting and handling techniques,” says Mrs Davies.

“It also includes a poultry welfare short course which is a face-to-face workshop, covering humane poultry welfare practices that meet legal and ethical standards.

“The final course is biosecurity and hygiene (level 4) which is an advanced face-to-face course designed to dive deeper into biosecurity management, ideal for area managers and farm managers and staff that want to progress further.

“All our poultry training courses are aligned with the British Poultry Passport requirements endorsed by British Poultry Training and we’re working with CPD and Lion Code accreditation bodies to ensure future courses align with their requirements, helping staff prepare for audits and meet regulatory requirements,” she explains.

Mrs Davies says: “Our recent roll-out of producer-focused contingency planning workshops in partnership with AHDB for African Swine Fever, is the latest evolution of our disease prevention support for the pig sector, and we’re keen to help as many producers as possible, so there will be further courses to follow.”
