The Living Wage Campaign - an independent campaign that calculates the hourly pay rate needed to ensure working people are not slipping into poverty, and which is assessed independently and based on the cost of living - estimates the current living wage to be £8.25 in the UK (£9.40 in London). From April 2016, the government's new National Living Wage (formerly Natiomal Minimum Wage) will be £7.20 an hour (£1.05 less than the living wage outside the capital) and will only apply to workers over 25 years of age.
