Michael Gove to meet US Secretary of Agriculture this Friday

Secretary Perdue is due to take part in the G-7 agriculture ministers meeting in Italy this weekend, but will make a stop in London to meet with Michael Gove before continuing on to Bergamo in Italy.

The American secretary of agriculture, Sonny Perdue, will meet with Michael Gove, the UK minister in charge of agriculture tomorrow where it is assumed that there will be a discussion on the potential of a US-UK trade deal post-Brexit.

Michael Gove has sought to reassure UK farmers in recent months regarding future trade deals, and emphatically stated that he will not allow cheap food imports or chlorinated chicken to enter the UK from the US post-Brexit.

Mr Perdue will also meet with members of the House of Commons' Committee on Environment,Food and Rural Affairs.

Perdue said:"The EU consistently ranks among the United States' top agricultural export markets and it is the world's largest importer of food and farm products.

"We value our close relationship with our European partners, but there is work to be done to address teh numerous trade barriers US exporters face in that market"
