Launch of New FAO report: The Status of Women in Agrifood Systems

Agrifood systems are a major employer of women globally and constitute a more important source of livelihood for women than for men in many countries.
The FAO report on the Status of Women in Agrifood Systems— the first of its kind since 2010-11 https://www.fao.org/publications/sofa/2010-11/en/— provides the latest data, lessons learned and recommendations for policy and decision makers about gender in agrifood systems.
The study examines the challenges and opportunities that women face in the economic and social processes of agrifood systems and evaluates progress made in closing gender gaps.
The report also provides compelling examples of policies and programmes that have worked, as well as specific recommendations about how to do more, and better.
The report also contains:
• Statistical highlights on women in agrifood systems
• An analysis of the multiple sources of inequality for rural women
• Details of how women’s equal participation in agrifood systems is crucial to the global economy and reducing world hunger.
